Considered among the most depraved and psychotic of Roman emperors, his birth name was Lucius Septimus Bassianus; Caracalla was a name given to him and referred to the loose, short-sleeve coat he habitually wore and which he made fashionable, it’s style coming from Syria – his mothers place of origin. It is still worn today in Arab countries under the name of Karaka(t). He murdered his own brother to become emperor and fought against the Allamanni tribes in what later became Swabia.
